Laboratory Analysis

Zooplankton collected in the field during EMEDZOO are subsequently analyzed in the laboratory.  Formalin-preserved zooplankton are analyzed using microscopy, and are identified to as low a taxonomic level as possible.  In addition, filtered zooplankton are weighed to estimate total zooplankton biomass in the water column.  The result of these analyses is a concrete evaluation of the zooplankton community in the waters around Cyprus.
