An introduction to Hadron Structure from Lattice QCD

Event Details:

  • Date: Thursday 30th March 2017
  • Time: 16:00 - 17:00
  • Venue: The Cyprus Institute – Guy Ourisson Building, Seminar Room, 1st Floor, Athalassa Campus
  • Speaker: Christos Kallidonis, Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center, The Cyprus Institute

*The seminar will be in English and the event is open to the public.

We give an introduction to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the fundamental theory describing the strong nuclear interactions. The numerical simulation of the theory on computers, known as Lattice QCD, and its large implication with high-performance-computing is discussed. We elaborate on the basic methods of Lattice QCD from which various key observables related to hadron structure are extracted.

A number of recently published results, such as the hadron masses, the  nucleon's quark content and the nucleon's spin, calculated directly from Lattice QCD is presented, highlighting their importance for the scientific community.
