Marina Faka joined the CyI in September 2012. She holds a five year engineering diploma from the School of the Rural and Surveying Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (2006-2011). Her diploma thesis was about the Geometrical documentation of the church of the Holy Cross in the village of Pelendri, in Cyprus.

Since Marina’s engagement at the CyI, she has participated in several projects considering the 3D documentation of archaeological sites and monuments, with the main goal being the development of her skills in the geometric documentation of such a demanding field. She has also taken part, as the main topographer, in archaeological excavation missions. She has worked in case studies all over Cyprus, Greece, Israel and Italy. Field work worth mentioning is the Dhaskalio at Keros Island excavation archaeological site (two seasons campaigns) in Greece, the Tombs of the Kings, the Choirokoitia– reconstructed area and the ancient settlement, both listed as Unesco World Heritage sites, the Cathedral of St John the Theologian, the Roman bath in the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, the Church of Ayia Marina, Derynia, in Cyprus, the Givati parking lot excavation (two campaigns), the King’s David Tomb complex in Israel and the Santa Cristina Sanctuary in Italy. Also, Marina was part of a multidisciplinary team which worked in collaboration with the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus for the location of mass graves and burial sites.

She is also a Member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber and Member of the Committee Monuments and Traditional Houses.

 

Research Interests

Geometric documentation of sites and topographic survey with traditional and modern methods: GPS and Total Station, Laser Scanning and Photogrammetric Methods.
