Elias Giannakis is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Energy Environment and Water Research Center of The Cyprus Institute in environmental and resource economics. He has an MSc and PhD from the Agricultural University of Athens in rural economics. His thesis investigates the interrelationships between the multiple functions of agriculture and the sustainable development of rural areas. He has participated in many EU-funded research projects investigating issues such as the sustainability of rural areas, impact of EU policies, and economic and environmental impact of agriculture. At the EEWRC Elias works on analyzing the economic and environmental costs, benefits and trade-offs of water and land management practices and climate change adaptation options and on developing methods and indicators for quantifying ecosystem services.
