Queen Elizabeth II honours CyI’s Trustee Mrs Edmée Leventis

Eedmee LeventiThe lifetime achievements of Mrs Edmee Leventis have been recognised in the 2015 British New Year Honours list, where distinguished personalities are awarded honorary titles by Queen Elizabeth II. Mrs Leventis has been styled Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by the Queen in recognition of her outstanding services to Arts Philanthropy.

Mrs Leventis is a full time committed voluntary worker. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the A. G. Leventis Foundation and a member of The Cyprus Institute’s Board of Trustees. Mrs Leventis has previously served as the Ambassador of Cyprus to UNESCO. She also served as Chair of the Executive Board of the Hellenic Community Trust and as a Trustee to the British Museum. She is actively involved with many cultural, philanthropic and charity organizations in London and in Cyprus.

The New Year Honours is part of the British honours system aiming to recognise the achievements and service of extraordinary people. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire was established in 1917 by King George V, during World War I, to reward services to the war effort by civilians at home and servicemen in support positions. It is now awarded for prominent national or regional roles and to those making distinguished or notable contributions in their own specific areas of activity.

The insignia has been presented to Mrs Leventis at an investiture that took place on Tuesday, 24 February 2015.
