The President of the Republic of Cyprus accepts invitation to become Honorary Chairman of The Cyprus Institute

The President of the Republic, H.E Mr Nikos Anastasiadis recently accepted to become the Honorary Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cyprus Research and Education Foundation (CREF), an institutional umbrella under which The Cyprus Institute is being developed.

The Cyprus Institute announced that the acceptance of Mr. Anastasiadis, reaffirms the President’s appreciation of the research work carried out at The Cyprus Institute and in particular his interest in research and innovation.

During a recent meeting at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Institute Prof. Costas N. Papanicolas, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Institute, Dr. Andreas Pittas, the Chairman of the Board, Prof. Edouard Brezin and the Chair of the Institute’s Scientific Advisory Council Prof. Herwig Schopper, briefed Mr. Anastasiades on the progress and development of the Institute, its scientific achievements and the challenges the Institute is facing and in particular the difficulties it is encountering during these hard financial times.

The Cyprus Institute would like to thank Mr Anastasiades for his support and emphasized that research combined with innovation is one of the best ways for economic growth and a very important pillar for development policy.

Mr Anastasiades succeeds the former President of the Republic, Mr Demetris Christofias.
