Outreach

The Cyprus Institute seeks to promote the dissemination of the Centers' research results through various outreach activities.

    • In 2010, STARC organised the first International Congress on Archaeological Sciences in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Near East (ICASEMNE), providing an important forum for the dissemination of research results in the region. Due to its success, this international congress will be organized every two years, with the second ICASEMNE taking place in 2012.

    • In 2011, an exhibition on the study of the famous Antikythera Mechanism was organised, in collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The exhibition was featured in Paphos and Nicosia with the support of the Paphos and Geroskepou Municipalities and the Leventeio Museum.

    • Future for our Past: Presentation of the Digital Ancient Cypriot Literature: In September 2014, STARC presented the Digital Ancient Cypriot Literature and its incorporation to Dioptra, the Digital Library of Cypriot Culture of The Cyprus Institute. The Digital Ancient Cypriot Literature is one of the most important projects of the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC) at The Cyprus Institute and is sponsored and supported by the A.G. Leventis Foundation. Accessed globally, it offers an innovative experience of ancient texts from a total of 64 writers, covering a period of 13 centuries (7th century BC to 6th century AD).

    • New Light on Early Works of El Greco: In April 2015, STARC presented results from the recent application of Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) technology on a series of key works from the early years of El Greco’s illustrious career. Digital images, visual analysis and video provided an opportunity for closer looks and perspectives in the study of these works and a context for discussion on the work of the famous Cretan artist

  • 5th EAGLE International Event 2015: On 11th and 12th March 2015 more than 50 participants, from twelve different countries, attended in Nicosia the Fifth EAGLE International Event: ‘Use and Re-Use of Digital Cultural Heritage Assets – Interoperability, Repositories and Shared infrastructures’. The event was organized by The Cyprus Institute within the frame of the European project ‘EAGLE - The Europeana network of Ancient Greek and Latin Epigraphy’.

Similar events highlighting significant interdisciplinary achievements in archaeological research and cultural heritage will continue to be organized by STARC in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos. STARC also has, and will continue to organize lectures, workshops, seminars and presentations covering a spectrum of themes.
