Premiere Screening of the Documentary, "The World Shrinks"

Με μεγάλη χαρά σας προσκαλούμε στην πρώτη προβολή του ντοκιμαντέρ «Ο Κόσμος Μικραίνει», μια παραγωγή της Juno12 σε σκηνοθεσία Μάρκου Κάσσινου. Το ντοκιμαντέρ βασίζεται στα επιστημονικά αποτελέσματα του ερευνητικού προγράμματος ARETI, το οποίο χρηματοδοτήθηκε από το Ίδρυμα Α. Γ. Λεβέντη και φιλοξενήθηκε στο Ινστιτούτο Κύπρου, με στενούς συνεργάτες το Ινστιτούτο Γεωργικών Ερευνών και το Ινστιτούτο Πληθυσμιακής Γενετικής στο Δουβλίνο της Ιρλανδίας.
Αντλώντας στοιχεία από την αρχαιολογία, τη γενετική, την ιστορία και την προφορική παράδοση, το ντοκιμαντέρ φωτίζει γνωστές και άγνωστες πτυχές της ιστορίας ενός ζώου που υπήρξε ο πιο πιστός συνεργάτης του Κύπριου γεωργού. Παράλληλα, προβληματίζει για τις συνέπειες της απώλειας της αγροβιοποικιλότητας — τόσο σε οικολογικό όσο και σε πολιτιστικό επίπεδο — και υμνεί τον στενό και πανάρχαιο δεσμό ανάμεσα στους ανθρώπους και τα ζώα εργασίας.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης θα διατίθενται προς πώληση κέρινα ειδώλια αγελάδας· καθένα από αυτά αντιπροσωπεύει μία πραγματική αγελάδα Κυπριακής Φυλής. Με κάθε αγορά, το κοινό θα έχει την ευκαιρία να «υιοθετήσει» μία κυπριακή αγελάδα, συμβάλλοντας ταυτόχρονα στην προστασία της Κυπριακής Φυλής Βοοειδών.
Μετά την προβολή, θα ακολουθήσει ανοικτή συζήτηση με τον σκηνοθέτη, τους σεναριογράφους και τους βασικούς συντελεστές, και στη συνέχεια μια μικρή δεξίωση στο φουαγιέ του θεάτρου.

We are delighted to invite you to the premiere screening of the documentary The World Shrinks, a Juno12 production directed by Markos Kassinos. The documentary is based on the scientific results of the ARETI research project, which was hosted at The Cyprus Institute, in close collaboration with the Agricultural Research Institute and the Smurfit Institute of Genetics at Trinity College Dublin.
Drawing on archaeology, genetics, history, and oral tradition, the film illuminates the history of an animal that has long been the closest companion of the Cypriot farmer. At the same time, it reflects on the consequences of the loss of agrobiodiversity—both ecological and cultural—while celebrating the deep and ancient bond between humans and working animals.
In the theatre’s foyer, members of the public will also be able to purchase beautifully crafted cattle candle figurines, each representing a real cow from farms across the island, and symbolically adopt a local cow, in support of the conservation of Cyprus’ indigenous cattle breed.
Following the screening, there will be an open discussion with the director, the scriptwriters, and the main contributors, followed by a small reception in the theatre’s foyer.
