Michail Alvanos joined CyI-CaSToRC in Januray 2015 as computational scientist. He is working in the integration of Climate modeling services, data, and visualization and in the the development of codes optimized for accelerators (GPUs mostly).
He served as a researcher and storage systems engineer at OnApp LTD. He conducted research in emerging, power-efficient micro-server architectures as part of the Euroserver FP7-funded project, in the topic of the virtualization. He has a Ph.D from the Department of Computer Architecture (DAC) of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. He was working as a resident student in the programming models research group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). He has a Master of Science degree in the field of Parallel and Distributed Systems in Computer Science Department from the University of Crete.
