Shahid Naqui
Shahid Naqui is a Graduate Research Fellow at the Cyprus Institute, working on the project Biogenic Emissions from Urban Vegetation and Their Links to Air Quality within the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) under the supervision of Dr. Efstratios Bourtsoukidis.
He holds a BSc in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata,” where he completed a thesis on BC Aerosols in the Atmosphere of Rome Before and After the COVID-19 Pandemic with Dr. Francesca Costabile. He also earned a double MSc in Environmental Meteorology from the University of Trento and Leopold-Franzens Universit¨at (LFU) Innsbruck, where his thesis focused on Methane and Ethane Fluxes Measured in the Urban Area of Innsbruck with Dr. Thomas G. Karl in collaboration with the Innsbruck Atmospheric Observatory (IAO) and the Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry (APC) groups.
During his BSc, he interned at the National Research Center (CNR-ARTOV) in Rome, studying daily and hourly concentrations of black carbon (BC) in the urban background of the city and assessing its oxidative stress from prolonged exposure. During his MSc, he joined the Provincial Environmental Protection Agency (APPA) of Trentino, where he contributed to air quality monitoring, data analysis of PM10, PM2.5, ozone, NOx, and BC, and the preparation of daily bulletins. While working on his MSc thesis, he also served as a teaching assistant and instructor at LFU Innsbruck for MSc courses in Mountain Meteorology and Synoptic and Dynamical Meteorology with Dr. Alexander Gohm.
His research results have been presented at international conferences, through a poster presentation at the 3rd MeteoXchange Conference (April 2024) and an oral presentation at the EGU General Assembly in Vienna (April–May 2025).
