Outreach
The EEWRC regularly engages with the public to communicate the results of its research in events such as the ‘sCYence’ fair and the solar car race organized in closed streets in inner Nicosia. Members of the Centre participate in capacity-building activities for decision makers in the public and private sector, and frequently give lectures and talks in schools and non-specialized audiences on energy sustainability, water management, new energy and water technologies and energy conservation. Some Centre scientists also make regular TV appearances to discuss current affairs in energy and water matters. Moreover, the EEWRC has contributed to the material presented to the COP27 as part of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative of the republic of Cyprus.
The Center is always looking to expand its network and consolidate existing relationships, but two actions that will accelerate this will take place in the next two years: (i) host the UNESCO-IHP “ECOMED” Academy that will constitute a regional network among the water stakeholders in Cyprus, other the Mediterranean member states, UN Agencies and international Water Organizations; and (ii) implement the Hydrodiplomacy Partnership Program (HPP) that aims at promoting transboundary cooperation on water resources on shared water basins in the EMME region. In that respect, it is envisioned in year 2023 to hold the “Water Diplomacy Course” for politicians, diplomats, and water negotiators.
