Quantum Computing (QC)
The mission objectives of CaSToRC are to:
- Conduct internationally acclaimed research in the previous key areas.
- Offer Graduate Programs in HPC & Machine Learning (MS), and in Computational Sciences (PhD).
- Support research actions of other CyI centers and collaborate widely with research and innovation organizations in Cyprus.
- Facilitate the uptake of HPC for data-intensive applications in Cyprus.
Vision
Our specific goals for the time period 2024-2027 are to:
- Grow CaSToRC in the direction of data-driven methods including machine learning and AI.
- Foster the existing CaSToRC expertise in HPC as well as computational modeling and simulation.
- Assemble a formidable research team in Quantum Computing (through the ERA Chair QUEST project).
- Attract exceptional researchers to Cyprus in all key research areas.
- Attain greater relevance to major economic sectors of Cyprus.
CaSToRC introduces new directions in existing areas, and it will also expand into new areas:
- High-Performance Computing: Exa-scale computing algorithms, integration of AI methods into large-scale simulations, HPC-driven research to explore strong interactions in fundamental physics.
- Computational Modelling and Simulation: Convergence of physics-based simulation approaches with data-driven methods. Additionally, expansion into green tech/energy storage, computer-aided drug design, microengineering.
- Machine Learning and AI: Emphasis on safe, large language models aligned with human values and objectives, generative models for images, video and multimodal data, trustworthy AI, neuro-inspired AI.
- Quantum Computing: Hybrid quantum-classical algorithms, quantum machine learning, or quantum methods to solve stochastic differential equations necessary in fluid dynamics.

Big Data Analytics and Data/Graph/Text Mining: Techniques for analyzing extremely large, different-modality datasets, with applications in health, environment, and cultural heritage.
