Jose Araya joined the Environmental Predictions Department (EDP) at the CARE-C Centre at the Cyprus Institute (CyI) in February 2020. His main duties are to support the activities of the EPD in areas related to climate change studies, in particular vector-borne diseases and climate impact studies. His main tasks at CyI are: collection, maintenance and management of various national, regional and international geophysical and environmental datasets, atmospheric climate/earth system model code development, installation and operation in High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments,collection, maintenance and management of various geophysical and environmental datasets, application of statistical analysis and other numerical methods for the study of variations of atmospheric and climate data, data science and visualisation techniques for the presentation and interpretation of scientific results.
He obtained bachelor and licentiate degrees in meteorology, as well as a PhD in Engineering. Previous to his PhD studies he worked on issues related to data network maintenance, programming, quality control and data analysis of meteorological data. Additionally, he has experience as a lecturer (delivering courses on general physics, meteorological instruments and observing systems).
