Giannis Ioannidis earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), where he also completed his integrated master’s degree. His research primarily focuses on the environmental impact of activities such as road traffic and maritime operations, using advanced air quality modelling techniques. During his PhD, Giannis developed a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) dispersion model at an urban scale to evaluate the effects of traffic emissions, incorporating Secondary Organic Aerosol (SOA) formation processes. Additionally, he worked on creating detailed emission inventories for both land-based and maritime sources to support air quality models.

Giannis has participated in several international conferences and contributed to multiple European research projects. His academic journey includes research stays at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany and Tampere University (TAU) in Finland. Currently, he is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the CARE-C center of the Cyprus Institute, where he focuses on developing emission inventories and assessing the environmental impact of aviation as part of the NEEDED project.
