Dendrochronology is a scientific method that studies the growth of tree-rings to date objects of wooden heritage (i.e. archaeological material, icons, wooden roofs and beams) as well as to provide data related to past atmospheric and climate conditions. The collaborative development of the Cyprus Dendrochronology Laboratory (CDL) supported within the framework of the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization Laboratories of the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center at CyI will promote the great potential of dendrochronological research for Cyprus and its surrounding region.
The event will be followed by a public talk:
Dendrochronology in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean: Challenges and Opportunities
Prof. Sturt Manning, Tree-Ring Laboratory, Cornell University
